If you don’t already know, our house is in renovation mode and has been since the day we moved in. I am talking floors, walls, ceilings, cabinets, bathroom redos, kitchen remodeling, exterior & interior painting, lighting fixture replacements, backyard remodel….you name it, we are doing it. Thank goodness my husband is EXTREMELY handy and thank goodness we were fortunate enough to receive the first time home buyer tax credit. Phew!
Because we have budget and because my husband works 2 other jobs, we do as much as we can when we can. He is currently working on the kitchen counter tops, the flooring, staining the garage floor, and landscaping/expanding the patio in the backyard. So I have decided to focus on the dining room.
Here is the dining room as of now…
Do not be alarmed! This dining room table has a lot of potential. It was given to us (which means FREE) so I am going to sand it down and refinish it to match the kitchen cabinets that we refinished (Kona Brown).
Don’t you just LOVE the bare concrete floors? They are my absolute FAVE….not. We will have slate in here before I know it…deep breaths…
*What? You don’t have a mini electric drum kit in your dining room? You are very weird…
Ahhh…the piano. I took piano lessons for about 4 years when I was younger. I promised myself that when I had my own home, I would have a piano for my family.
Matthew will tell you that he was “forced” into piano lessons when he was a child. Strange how he is an aspiring musician and a phenomenal pianist. Not to mention the piano that was passed down to him from his mother and father. I guess it was a good thing he was “forced” into such a terrible thing as a young child.
*Also notice the accent wall the piano is on. My husband (a contractor/painter) convinced me of this color. It grows on me daily.
Here is a closer look at the top of the piano. What do you think? I am not totally sold. I think I am going to put this arrangement on a bulky shelf in the living room and try to think of something new here. Maybe a few glass pieces and a lamp to match the dining room table…
My plate wall art from Kirklands. I thank my mom for introducing me to this fabulous store…and for the wall art (birthday gift). This will be my inspiration when purchasing the fabric for the chairs.
Can’t forget about this…My new menu from Home Goods. LOVE this lil guy!
*Have you noticed that I am a terrible photographer yet?? The menu is actually hung straight…it looks slanted because of my photography skills…or lack of.
So…That’s it. Definitely boring. But definitely an improvement from what it was.
Make sure to check back for updates! The sander and I have a date right after our family vacation…to DISNEYLAND!!!
It’s okay…I would be jealous too :)
