Capturing Christmas Traditions

I wanted to make a point of capturing photos of some of our family’s Christmas traditions this year.
I think traditions are important. Traditions bring families together and really make holidays feel welcoming and exciting.
What does the word tradition mean?

the handing down of statements, beliefs, legends, customs, information, etc., from generation to generation, especially by word of mouth or by practice (

an inherited, established, or customary pattern of thought, action, or behavior (

a ritualbelief or object passed down within a society, still maintained in the present, with origins in the past (

Here are some of our Christmas traditions…

The day after Thanksgiving (if not earlier), we decorate our tree as a family while Christmas music blares in the background.

We set up our nativity and talk and read about what the real meaning of Christmas is.
The birth of Jesus Christ, our Savior.

We get our family photos taken by our favorite photographer and send our photo Christmas cards to all of our family and friends.

Starting December 1, we read a different Christmas story every night before bed.

Another tradition we start December 1 is counting down the days until Christmas. This year I made a Christmas Countdown Wreath just for this very task.

We love visiting the Temple in Mesa and seeing all of the beautiful Christmas lights and nativity scenes. It’s absolutely beautiful. This is a tradition that comes from my husband’s family and I am so happy that we have continued it in our home.

We also love driving around to look at all of the Christmas lights… especially in our jammies with good friends, popcorn, hot chocolate, and Christmas music! I have fond childhood memories of doing this with my mom and sister, so I had to carry the tradition into my own famly.

Getting messy in the kitchen! We bake lots of holiday treats to stuff in our mouths and to take to our friends and family.

We also LOVE Christmas movies! Some of our favorites are…

We also participate in Angel Tree gifts (Luci picked out a Babie doll for a 5 year old little girl this year), going to Christmas pageants, family movie date on Christmas Eve or Day, and opening one gift before bed on Christmas Eve (new jammies and slippers).

What are some of your Christmas traditions? I would ♥ to add more to our list!

Thanks for stopping by!

Merry Christmas!
