With only 4 days left until Christmas, I thought it would be a good time to share an easy and homemade gift you can give to almost anyone… DIY Sugar Scrub. There are only 3 main ingredients and it only takes a couple of minutes to make. We made this in my monthly craft class and my preschooler made some for her grandmas.
The ingredients are: sugar, almond or coconut oil, and essential oils. Since this batch of sugar scrub was made for Christmas gifts, I thought it’d be fun to use peppermint essential oils (but you could easily use lavender, vanilla, etc.). The exact measurements of each ingredient really depend on the size of jar you will be using to store the scrub in.
For my particular jars (purchased at Hobby Lobby), I needed 1/3 cup sugar, 2 teaspoons almond oil, and 2 drops of peppermint essential oils. (I filled the jar up with sugar first to see how much it would take…then slowly added the almond oil). Put the sugar and almond oil into a bowl and stir with a spoon until combined. Then add the peppermint and stir again. Fill your jars and tie a candy cane to it with some ribbon or raffia.
The sugar scrub should be fluffy and soft…not wet and oily. So start out with a teaspoon or so of almond/coconut oil, mix, and add more as you need to. If you find that you made it too wet, add more sugar to the mix.
Almond oil, coconut oil, and essential oils can all be purchased online or in a health food store. I purchased mine at Sprouts.
The jars and wooden spoons (used to assist with getting the scrub out of the jars) were purchased at Hobby Lobby. (I also find cute jars at the dollar store all of the time.)
I stamped my wooden spoons with “Sugar Scrub” just to give it that homemade touch.
Mini candy canes and raffia were purchased at the dollar store.
