I am busy busy getting my daughter’s Halloween costume together for our church truck-or-treat and neighborhood trick-or-treating! She decided to be a witch this year, so I wanted to make her a cute bag to collect her candy in. Since I’m running short on time, I needed something that was quick and easy. Check out how this No Sew Halloween Tote came together!
Simple but cute and perfect to collect Halloween loot…especially if you are a witch. In case you want to make your own, here is what you will need:
- canvas tote
- felt owl or other embellishment
- Martha Stewart Glow in the Dark Decoupage
- Martha Stewart Matte Decoupage
- black & orange craft paint
- Martha Stewart adhesive Halloween stencils
- Martha Stewart Decoupage Lace
- Hot glue gun and glue sticks
- Paint or sponge brush
This tote will take you no time at all and is really very simple to make.
First, put newspaper inside the tote so that paint and decoupage will not bleed through.
Measure and cut your decoupage lace for the top and bottom of the tote bag.
Using your brush, paint the matte decoupage where you want the lace to go. Put it on thick. And after you lay the lace down, paint over the top of it heavily. Don’t worry- it dries clear and it’s not stiff.
Place the adhesive stencils on the tote where you want them to go and paint. Carefully peal the stencils off the canvas tote before the paint dries.
Add your felt embellishments with more matte decoupage. I did not paint over the top of the felt; I only painted the bottom before laying it on the tote.
Add a bow with the ribbon and use a hot glue gun to adhere it to the canvas tote.
Using a paint brush, go back and paint the areas you want to glow with the Glow in the Dark Decoupage. I even added polka dots to the ribbon bow and eyes on the black cat!
I allowed 24 hours dry time before handling.
Yes, everything sticks and stays! Even when my 5 year old carries it around the house, shoving baby dolls and books inside. I haven’t tried to yet but the decoupage says it’s machine washable. I’m excited for her to use her tote on Halloween and for our trunk-or-treat! The glow in the dark effect will be so cool.
Thanks for stopping by! I can’t wait to show you the rest of the witch costume, so stay tuned :)
