I was compensated for this post, but all ideas and opinions are my own.
Are there any football fans out there? With the BIG GAME just a couple of weeks away, I thought I would share 5 Tips for Hosting a Football Party. These tips are great, especially if you decide last minute to have friends over for the game.
1. Come up with a budget.
Decide how much money are are going to spend on food and on decor. Once you decide on a dollar amount, make sure you stick to it! Shop sales, use coupons, price match, make your own decor/foods…all of these things will save you money.
2. Simple, inexpensive decor.
You don’t have to go big and extravagant with decorations for a football party. I mean, you certainly can, but it won’t make or break your party. Because let’s be honest, your guests are there to watch the game and eat. But it is fun to dress the place up a bit. I found and ordered inexpensive football party decor on Amazon (under $10) and made a couple of tissue paper pom poms (using tissue paper I already had). I found plastic football shaped bowls at the dollar store. The cute chalkboard food labels were from a recent purchase at Michael’s and were under $2 a package. My decor was festive, yet budget friendly.
3. Healthy, delicious appetizers.
Just because it’s a football party doesn’t mean you need to leave the party having gained 10 extra pounds. Your menu can be healthy and still rock the socks off your guests. Let’s not forget about those New Years resolutions just yet *wink.* I’ve found that serving homemade foods (rather than pre-made, prepackaged foods) not only tastes better, but it saves you a lot of money too. Because my diet consists of gluten free foods, our appetizer menu is void of it. My husband made homemade tapenade which we served with gluten free crackers. He also made shrimp ceviche and homemade salsa. I fried up some corn tortillas for some homemade tortilla chips, popped some little smokies in the oven, and baked up a batch of gluten free football brownies (these were from a package, as I found them on sale). Our spread was delicious, healthy, and filling.
4. Game for the kids.
Our parties and get-togethers usually involve kiddos too, so I like to be sure we are as kid-friendly as possible. If your parties are similar, I suggest having games or crafts available for the kids to play with. It’s a long football game and most kids won’t sit through the entire thing… at least not quietly and patiently *wink*. I found this fun, inexpensive food ball game on Amazon…even came with the blind fold! I would also put out paper, crayons, stickers, and board games.
5. Guests dress to support their team.
Don’t forget to tell your guests to dress to support their team! If you don’t have football apparel (like myself), do not fret! You can easily incorporate the team’s colors in your outfit. If your team’s color is blue, wear a blue top with your skinnies! Your team’s colors are red but you don’t have a red shirt? Wear a white one and add red accessories like earrings, a necklace, or cute flats. Work with what ya got, girl!
There you have it! 5 Tips for Hosting a Football Party. Hopefully these tips help simplify your party planning and relieve a bit of stress.
