Hello there makers and welcome back! Have you noticed the cactus trend lately? We are from Arizona… home of allllllllll the cactus ever. Not really, but we see our fair share of desert life. I thought it would be fun to make my daughter something that can carry her hiking nature notebook and mini first aid kit when we go hiking and exploring. How cute did this Embellished Cactus Purse turn out?
My daughter loves it and it’s the perfect size for her couple of hiking things. It was pretty easy to make too!
I used a blank canvas purse (found at Hobby Lobby), felt, pom poms, embroidery thread, and my Spellbinders Platinum 6 and my new cactus steel rule die.
I used the Platinum 6 and the die to cut out a felt cactus.
Made it so quick and easy and look at those clean cut lines!
Then, using green embroidery thread, I stitched X’s on the felt cactus to secure it to the canvas purse. Plus, it looks like cactus needles!
I added blooms to the cactus using pom poms and embroidery thread.
Then I hand stitched more pom poms to the bottom of the purse. I really love pom poms, y’all.
The zipper needed a little something special too, so I used embroidery thread to make a tassel to hang from it.
The cute little cactus notebook that my daughter uses for her nature journal was made at SNAP conference in the Spellbinders room. It’s so cute and fits just right in her cactus purse.
Ready for our next hike!
Do you love the cactus trend too?
