Hi makers! As you probably know, I am a fan of all things cactus and succulent because I’m an Arizona girl. I’ve shared several cactus and succulent projects, and I’m not stopping now! I made this easy DIY cactus sign and I just love the way it turned out, don’t you?
I love the bright colors and the rustic look, don’t you? It also looks as if I painted all of the cacti onto the wood… but I didn’t! It’s paper! I know… crazy cool, right?
It really is easy to make your own. Here’s what you’ll need:
- Wooden heart
- Wooden trapezoid
- Mod Podge
- Sponge brush
- Green felt
- Cactus scrapbook paper
- Razor blade
- Sanding block
- Hot glue and gun
- Spellbinders Platinum 6 and succulent steel rule die
*You can cut out your heart and trapezoid pieces yourself, or you can buy the precut at your local Michael’s.
You are going to use your Platinum 6, succulent die, and green felt to cut out your succulent. Watch this video if you need more help. I cut out 2 and double layered the felt so that the succulent was extra full.
Using your hot gun, glue the felt pieces together and set the succulent aside.
Paint the Mod Podge onto the wooden heart.
Lay cactus scrapbook paper onto the Mod Podge and smooth out. I use my smoothing tool, but you can use a credit card or your hand.
Using your razor blade, cut the excess paper off around the edges of the heart. My wooden heart had grooves on the front, making it look like slates of wood. I cut those out too.
Go around the edges of your heart with a sanding block (after Mod Podge is dry) to smooth out the paper on the edges.
Then wrap twine around the wooden pot (or trapezoid) and hot glue it to the heart.
Grab that cute, felt succulent you set to the side and hot glue it onto the wooden heart too.
Hang it on your wall with some twine and done! Doesn’t it look so cute?! I just adore it!
What have you been working on lately? Do you love the cactus trend as much as I do? If so, you’ll have to check out the Cactus Purse I made my daughter…
And this fun felt succulent wreath…
Or possibly this simple desert party…
Have a great weekend!
