Hi makers! We are gearing up for our annual homeschool Halloween party tomorrow and we are super excited. My daughter and her friend are in charge of decorating and they decided to go with sugar skulls this year. So we decided to make our very own DIY Sugar Skulls using supplies from the dollar store!
To make your own you will need:
- plastic skulls
- faux flowers
- black Sharpie marker
- Mod Podge
- paint brush
- hot glue/gun
Almost all of these items can be purchased at your local Dollar Tree! If you don’t have Mod Podge, you can totally use white liquid glue like Elmer’s.
First this you’re going to do is paint the areas you want glittered with the Mod Podge.
Then sprinkle the glitter in the areas with glue and allow some dry time. Take a damp paper towel to wipe off any extra glitter.
Next, pull the faux flowers of the stems and trim as needed. Using your hot glue, adhere the flowers in a crown shape at the top of the plastic skull. Repeat until you have the amount of flowers desired.
Last, use your black Sharpie to draw designs on the skull. The key is to be symmetrical… whatever you draw on one side of your skull, be sure to draw it on the other. Lots of curly lines, dots, hearts, flowers, and lace shapes!
And that’s it! Won’t these look great for the Halloween table centerpieces?! I love how the turned out and my daughter (age 9) did almost all of it herself! We had most of the supplies on hand, so we only spent about $4 on skulls and flowers. It was a fun Halloween project! Let us know if you decide to make any DIY Sugar Skulls!
We’ve still got 2 more Halloween costume ideas coming at you this week! Can’t wait to share them with y’all!
