The Genius of Play sent Luci and I an Air Baby to review. All thoughts and ideas are 100% my own and I will only share products and companies and ideas that we think you’ll like as much as we do.
My daughter and I love to craft together, but we also love being really frugal about it. If we can turn a box into something cool, we’ll do it. Like this Easy DIY Baby Doll Bed we made for her new Air Baby.
Do you remember being a little girl and receiving a brand new baby doll? There was something so magical about opening the box to a new doll. The crispness of their clothing. The smell of new plastic. And if your baby doll had hair, it was perfectly placed ever so neatly. I didn’t get a lot of baby dolls when I was a little girl, so when I did it was so special and memorable. I took such good care of those baby dolls… like they were real!
So when The Genius of Play sent Luci a beautiful Air Baby in the mail, it was so much fun watching her open the box and see her new baby doll for the first time (if you follow me on Instagram, you may have experienced that with us on our IG stories!). She was SO surprised and excited!
After checking out her babydoll, giving her a name (Reese Italia), feeding her, and burping her, Luci thought it would be fun to build her ‘daughter’ a bed out of the box she came in. After all, it is a really pretty and very durable box.
We razored the top of the box off and then used fabric from my stash to cover the bottom of the box and create a blanket and pillows. We measured everything and used scissors to cut out all the fabric pieces.
We used a hot glue gun to adhere fabric to the box. The glue gun came in handy for making the pillows too, which made them a no-sew project! Just glue your pillow inside out, leaving one side open. Turn the pillow right side out to stuff it.
I had extra stuffing left over from throw pillows I made for another project, so Luci took full advantage of that. After she stuffed them, we hot glued the open end of the pillow shut. We repeated those steps to make two pillows.
Everything turned out so cute!! I love the fabrics Luci picked. They all go so well together and will the box. Once the doll bed was made, Luci had fun tucking her baby in for a nap.
And while she was napping, I asked Luci what she likes most about her new babydoll, and she had a list to give me.
- the details on the doll like the wrinkles and rolls
- a pinky that actually stays in the dolls mouth
- a fun bottle that makes drinking noises
- the size and feel of the doll
The other great thing about the dolls from The Genius of Play is that they have a lifetime guarantee. If you aren’t happy with your doll for any reason, you can return the doll for a replacement or your money back, no questions asked.
The Genius of Play promotes educational learning through play. As a former early childhood classroom teacher and now homeschooler, I know how important play and using the imagination is to children and their development. Playing improves cognitive abilities, hones communication skills, increases creativity, processes and expresses emotions, develops physical skills, and enhances social skills.
Luci has not stopped taking care of her new baby doll since it arrived. She even has her doll on a feeding schedule just like her baby cousin is on and reads to her everyday. It’s so fun to watch her play and use her imagination and be a little mommy to her new doll, as I know she is growing up so fast and these moments are fleeting. Cue the tears. Oh motherhood… you give me all the feels.
Thanks for stopping by to see our new kids craft! Did you have a favorite baby doll growing up? Did you craft and make your dolls things too?
