Good morning and Happy Monday, friends! We are so ready to start this week after the delicious breakfast and calming yoga session we had this morning. I love starting out my day like that, because I feel good inside and out. Something else that really helps with how I feel is what I am choosing to put into my body. About 10 years ago my family started to move away from dairy products. More recently we have started to focus on having a more plant-based diet. If you and your family are considering moving away from dairy products and moving towards plant-based, you’ll love these 3 small steps to live a dairy-free life.
Step 1: Replace your dairy milk with Silk Almondmilk or Coconutmilk
This was a very easy step for us, as we LOVE Silk Vanilla Almondmilk. We use it for baking, cereal eating, in my coffee, and to drink, of course. It is so yummy and Silk has lots of options for you to choose from. If I am cooking something that isn’t sweet that calls for milk, I typically use the Silk Unsweetened Almondmilk. It’s the perfect replacement.
Step 2: Replace your dairy yogurt with Silk Almondmilk Dairy-Free Yogurt Alternative
We love having yogurt parfaits and smoothies in the morning. They are our go-to breakfast choices because they are quick and delicious. I always add yogurt to our smoothies, so finding a dairy-free yogurt alternative was super important for us. My favorite is Silk Vanilla Almond Dairy-Free Yogurt Alternative, but Silk also has plain, peach, strawberry, and dark chocolate which are all so so good.
Step 3: Replace your dairy cheese with a dairy-free alternative or eliminate cheese completely
This was the hardest step for me, only because I LOVE cheese and I use it in a lot of our favorite dinner recipes. Although I reduced our cheese intake, eliminating cheese completely was out of the question for us. Instead, I started purchasing nut-based cheese alternatives from the market to try out. I bought a different kind each week until I found a brand or type we all really liked.
“Less Dairy-More Plants” has been our focus and these small ways to transition to plant based instead of dairy is exactly where to start. You can start gradually… just focus on one at a time!
Or if you are like me, just purge all your dairy, head to your local Walmart, and stock up on Silk Almondmilk or Coconutmilk (depending on your preference) and Silk dairy-free yogurt alternatives. While you are there, check out their dairy-free cheese options and give one a try this week. Health is hard, but feeling healthier doesn’t have to be!
