Hello and welcome to Mommy Tell All Monday where anything *mommyhood* goes!

Mommy Tell All Monday button (300x300)

Mornings around our house are BUSY. I’m sure most of you mommies can relate. I often struggle with finding time to prepare a well balanced breakfast. And since it’s the most important meal of the day, I know that breakfast is necessary to add into our morning routine. So the other day when I was grocery shopping at Safeway, I picked up a box of Carnation Breakfast Essentials powders. My daughter was super excited to get home to concoct smoothies! The first one we made was a Dark Chocolate Cookie Butter Green Breakfast Smoothie… YUM!

Breakfast Smoothies1

Isn’t my smoothie partner the cutest?! We picked up the Variety Pack so that we can try all kinds of different smoothies in the mornings. And my daughter picked the Dark Chocolate to try first. We took the opportunity to dress it up a bit and turned it into a Dark Chocolate Cookie Butter Green Breakfast Smoothie!

Breakfast smoothie2

Doesn’t it look SO tasty?? It is, my friends. It totally is. And Carnation Breakfast Essentials is packed with 21 vitamins and minerals, 13 grams of protein, and as much calcium as 6 ounce cup of yogurt. Plus I added 1/4 of an avocado to the mix, which is where the ‘green’ comes in. Avocado is a great addition to smoothies… it’s a healthy fat and adds lots of potassium plus it makes your smoothies extra creamy.

I love how easy these smoothies are for the kiddos to make themselves! There’s minimal ingredients and you throw it all into a blender or bullet and viola! It’s like a delicious, nutritious dessert for breakfast! Are you ready for the recipe so that you can make your own? Here we go!

Mommy Tell All Monday: Energy and Water Saving Tips for Mom and Kids

I am a member of the Collective Bias®  Social Fabric® Community.  This shop has been compensated as part of a social shopper amplification for Collective Bias and its advertiser.

Hello there! Welcome to Mommy Tell All Monday, a place where we share all things related to *motherhood.*

Mommy Tell All Monday button (300x300)

It’s Monday and I’ll tell you what, I’m ready to hit the ground running this week! Not literally (I’m so not a runner), but I have a ton on my to do list and I’m super motivated. One of the things I am focusing on this week is preparing for summer temperatures. I live in Arizona and our summer temps are killer. And when I say killer, I mean on my bank account too, due to higher electric bills. So today I am going to share some Energy and Water Saving Tips for Moms and Kids, including adding in some LED power! I think you are going to find that these little adjustments are not only simple, but they will save you money in the long run as well.

LED bulbs5

What can us moms do to help minimize those electric and water bills this summer? Here are 5 simple Energy and Water Saving tips that anyone can do:

  1.  Switch out your regular ol’ light bulbs to LED power! I suggest using GE LED Energy Smart light bulbs. One LED bulb lasts as long as 15 traditional incandescent bulbs and uses 80% less energy! You can also check your annual savings using the energy saving calculator.
  2. Turn off anything that’s plugged in that you are not using…electronics, appliances, etc. An easy way to do this is to use power strips! Then just go around and turn off the strips.
  3. Close the curtains or blinds during the hottest parts of the day. If you have Venetian blinds, angel them up to reflect the light up.
  4. Set your air conditioner to 75* F when you are home and 82-85* F when you are gone from home. Be sure to change those air filter regularly too!
  5. Replace old shower heads with water efficient shower heads.

Not too bad right? Easy adjustments = energy, water, and money saved!  I bought 4 GE LED Energy Smart light bulbs and put them in the rooms we have lights on the most- the bathrooms, living room, hallway, and the playroom/school room. I plan on buying a couple of LED bulbs every week until all of our bulbs are switched over. Is it funny that I’m actually really excited about this? LOL!

You’ll  notice that I only put one light bulb in the bathroom. Only putting in one bulb rather than 3 saves on energy also!

LED bulbs3

Now if you know me, you know that I can turn almost any situation into a learning experience. I love to include my daughter in on things that I am doing, such as conserving water and energy and, in turn, saving our family money. I think it’s an important life lesson. And let’s be honest moms, it’s nice to have our kids help out too!  Here are a few simple things that the kids can do to help out…

LED lights2

  1. Turn off  lights in rooms you walk out of.
  2. Don’t let the water run too long. Turn off the water.
  3. When you are done using an electronic device (TV, gaming system, computer, etc.), turn it off.

Save Energy & Water print

I made a checklist to put up around the house to help my daughter remember these 3 simple tasks she can do to help out with conserving energy and water. And I’ll be honest and tell you it’s a nice reminder for my husband and I as well.

You can print out a kid’s checklist HERE. Please remember all free printables are for Mine for the Making readers personal use only.

Mommy Tell All Monday: DIY Rain Stick

“This shop is part of a social shopper marketing insight campaign with Pollinate Media Group® and Scott Brand, but all my opinions are my own. #pmedia #Scottvalue

Hello and welcome to Mommy Tell All Monday… a place where we share all things related to motherhood. I hope you had a Happy Easter yesterday! Today I’m going to share an on-the-fly, child-lead teaching moment I had with my daughter.

Mommy Tell All Monday button (300x300)

The other day we had some unexpected cloudy, rainy weather here in sunny Arizona. It was so beautiful and so peaceful outside and my daughter was very interested in the rain, asking lots of questions. I took the opportunity to teach her a bit about rain and where it comes from. Then we rounded up materials we already had on hand and made a DIY Rain Stick together.

scott towels6

We read this storybook about rain and we also used the Internet to look up more interesting facts about rain… which is how we stumbled upon rain sticks. We learned that the Native American culture uses the rain stick as a tool to bring rain during drought seasons, so we plan to use this rain stick OFTEN in hopes that it rains a bit more here in Arizona :) My daughter was interested in this activity and actively engaged in the learning the entire time…because I took something she was interested in and turned it into a teaching moment.

Would you like to make one with your kids? I bet you have most all the materials you need on hand already!

scott towels4

You will need:

  • 1/4 cup of uncooked rice
  • 20 inches of aluminum foil
  • 2 small pieces of parchment or wax paper
  • duct tape
  • dowel or skewer
  • Scott Towels roll

Let’s make a DIY Rain Stick, shall we?

scott towels5

First, roll the aluminum foil up long ways, then wrap it around the dowel or skewer to make a spiral/coil. Next, use duct tape and wax/parchment paper to tape one end of your Scott Towels roll closed. Remove the dowel/skewer from your aluminum foil coil and insert the coil into the roll. Carefully pour the uncooked rice into the roll and seal up the other side with more wax/parchment paper and duct tape. Continue to cover the Scott Towels roll in duct tape. And DONE! You have yourself a DIY Rain Stick.

scott towels7

As I said, I had all of my materials on hand to make our DIY Rain Stick. Lucky for me, I just shopped at Kmart and stocked up on Scott Tissue products. Scott Towels clean up my everyday big and small messes PLUS I can recycle the rolls to make fun crafts with my daughter.

scott towels3

Check out Kmart’s Shop Your Way rewards for great coupon offers on SCOTT® products this week! Coupons are treasures in this house. You know what I’m saying, right moms? I was able to stock up on Scott toilet paper, towels, and wipes all for $10 ($15 + $5 coupon) at Kmart. I’ll go ahead and say you’re welcome. ;)

A kid-friendly craft and coupon offers… I’d say that’s a good Mommy Tell All Monday, wouldn’t you?

Mommy Tell All Monday: 4 Easy Ways to Teach Kids How to Keep a Healthy Home, Body, and Planet

I am a member of the Collective Bias®  Social Fabric® Community.  This shop has been compensated as part of a social shopper amplification for #CollectiveBias and its advertiser. #WalgreensOlogy

Hello and welcome to Mommy Tell All Monday, a place where I share all things related to motherhood!

Mommy Tell All Monday button (300x300)

Today I am sharing 4 easy ways to teach kids how to keep a healthy home, body, and planet using Ology products, exclusively at Walgreens. Around our house, we are making simple, positive changes that will not only better our health, but will leave the planet a better place! Ology is making it SUPER easy for us busy moms to do that.

ology at walgreens1

Ology products help me create a healthier and safer environment by avoiding toxic ingredients. I have children in my home on a regular basis as I teach children’s cooking classes, so it’s extremely important to me to not only keep my home clean, but to avoid chemicals as well.

ology walgreens2

1. Wash clothing, towels, blankets, (and in my case aprons) using detergent with no harmful chemicals, detergents that are plant based and are not tested on animals. I love Ology’s detergent because it’s tough on stains (cooking class with kids is MESSY) but gentle on clothing and skin.

ology walgreens3

2. Wash your hands, body and hair with chemical free, non toxic soaps. Ology soaps have no Parabens or Sulfates either! Nourish your skin and hair without the harmful chemicals. I keep a bar of the Oatmeal and Honey bar soap at the kitchen sink, especially for little hands. Plus, my daughter has very sensitive skin and her hands chap easily when we use harsh soaps. Ology’s soaps have been so gentle on her hands! We love it!

ology walgreens4

3. Wipe down counters, tables, and other surfaces using chemical free, non toxic all-purpose cleaners.  I’m even okay with my 3 year old little chefs wiping down their work areas with Ology’s All-Purpose Cleaner during cooking class!  It cuts through grease and grime without using solvents or ammonia. Perfect for little hands. Plus, I’m teaching my 6 year old how to read labels on products and foods so that we are really looking at how things and made and what they are made with. Shopping trips can definitely be a learning experience!

ology walgreens5

4. Use Tree Free paper products such as towels, bath tissue, and facial tissue. Can I just tell you I had NO IDEA there was such a thing? Ology paper products are made from sugarcane husk and bamboo. How awesome is that?! Let’s teach our children early on how important it is to make choices that are safer and better for our environment.

  ology at walgreens11

Ology products can be found all over your local Walgreens store. I love that Ology is on almost every aisle in Walgreens…that means I have lots of chemical free products that are readily available and affordable.

How are you teaching your kids about keeping a healthy home, body, and planet? Every little bit helps! Let’s be great examples to the little ones in our lives!

Disney FROZEN Fun Pom Pom Crafts

I am a member of the Collective Bias®  Social Fabric® Community.  This shop has been compensated as part of a social shopper amplification for Collective Bias and its advertiser.

I don’t know about your house, but our house has been buzzing around excitedly about the release of Disney’s FROZEN DVD this week (March 18th)! We saw it in theaters three times and my daughter has literally been counting down the days for the release so that she can have her very own copy…to watch everyday I’m sure. Not to mention that her birthday party this month is FROZEN themed… we pretty much live in a world of all things FROZEN at this point. Haha! So, to celebrate this glorious occasion even more, we got our craft on. Check out our Disney FROZEN Fun Pom Pom Crafts that we made!

We used yarn pom poms to create an Olaf snowman…because let’s be honest, that cheery, cute, positive little guy is our favorite character! My daughter even named her new pet dwarf bunny after him! His character is just too sweet not to love. And the yarn pom poms make cute little snowballs, don’t you think?

We ran to Walmart for the FROZEN DVD and some other fun FROZEN products (including the toddler Elsa doll, a FROZEN story book, and a FROZEN t-shirt). I was super excited to see that the movie was marked down to $14.96! And there’s even a coupon on specially marked packages of Eggo Waffles (24 count) for a $5 off offer for the FROZEN DVD… talk about an awesome deal!! My girl was ECSTATIC to say the least. Once we were home, we got busy with our Disney FROZEN Fun Pom Pom Crafts.

Do you wanna build a {pom pom} snowman with us? You will need 3 white yarn pom poms, brown pipe cleaners, orange ribbon scrap, black and white mini pom poms, small googly eyes, black and white scraps of felt, black ric-rack scrap, hot glue gun and glue sticks. Simply cut out the pieces to make your pom pom snowman and glue them all on. Really easy!

After our pom pom snowman craft, we decided to have a picnic with {pom pom} Olaf and Elsa outside. My daughter insisted on wearing her FROZEN shirt and having Elsa hair, so I whipped up a quick hair bow and gave her a side braid that had a silver glittery ribbon intertwined. For this craft you need one white yarn pom pom, aqua glitter ribbon, silver glitter ribbon, scissors, a hair clip, a hot glue gun and glue sticks. I made two circles out of the aqua ribbon, then pinched them in the middle and glued them. Then I overlapped the aqua circles and glued them in a ‘X’ shape. I glued the yarn pom pom in the middle and glued a long piece of silver ribbon to the back. Then I glued on the hair clip and DONE! Clipped it in my girl’s hair and braided the silver ribbon into her side braid. CUTENESS!

The FROZEN tea party was a hit and so simple too! I just spread out a quilt in our grass, collected the tea set on a tray, and we headed out to the backyard for some FROZEN fun. The best part about having a tea party outside is that we get to put water in our tea kettle…it’s like the real deal guys.

How fun would it be to surprise your kiddos with the FROZEN DVD, toys, and a fun craft or two? You can even make the crafts while watching the movie! Head to Walmart to get your copy with a price drop of $14.96 and be sure to follow the hashtags #FROZENfun and #CollectiveBias on social media for even more FROZEN fun! And be sure to check back her in a couple of weeks for the recap of my daughter’s FROZEN birthday party!

Thanks for stopping by today friends! Who is your favorite FROZEN character?

Decorating with Minted

This is a sponsored post, though all ideas and opinions are 100% my own.

One of my FAVORITE things to do is decorate. Ever since I was a little girl, I delighted in rearranging my bedroom furniture, repainting picture frames and lamps, recovering pillows, etc. Now as a wife, mother, and homemaker, I especially love to decorate my home. I work from home, I teach from home, I make memories in my home…we spend a lot of time at home, so I want it to be a happy, peaceful, comfortable place for my family and our guests to reside. A simple way to do this is by hanging beautiful framed art on your walls. The pieces you hang should inspire you, remind you, uplift you, strengthen you, reflect you, encourage you, and make you smile…

That’s where decorating with Minted comes in!

Minted has a multitude of beautiful, original wall art prints to choose from. They have something for in your home, no joke! I browsed through the prints and literally found something for every room in my house…the kitchen, the living room, my craft room, my daughter’s room, the master bedroom, and even the playroom. LOTS of different styles and many of the prints can be personalized. Check out this Family Tree Rings piece. I adore it!

What a great gift to give a friend or family member! I’m thinking wedding gift, house warming gift, baby shower gift, anniversary gift… There’s really something for any gift-giving occasion.

There’s a great selection of frames to choose from as well, so you don’t have to worry about frame shopping! Your print will come to you already framed. Thanks for that added convenience, Minted! Love these three styles, don’t you?

Minted also offers a variety of other services such as announcements, invitations, stationary, business cards, journals, calendars and more! I love that Minted offers free recipient addressing too! I tell you what… pretty things + convenience will get me every time.

Here are three more of my favorites. Who wouldn’t want these sweet daily reminders around their home?

Mommy Tell All Monday: Bathroom Routine

This shop is part of a social shopper marketing insight campaign with Pollinate Media Group™ and Cottonelle but all my opinions are my own. #pmedia #CtnlCareRoutine

Hello there and welcome to Mommy Tell All Monday, our weekly series dedicated to all things *motherhood*.

Mommy Tell All Monday button (300x300)

For the 5 (almost 6) years I’ve been a mother, I’d say that potty training and the whole Bathroom Routine has been one of the hardest parts of parenting. We started potty training my daughter at 3 (because she showed NO interest prior to that) and let me just say…those 5-6 weeks of potty training were not my *shining* moments as a mother. It was hard and frustrating and tiring and GROSS at times. Have you ever tried to peal off poopy panties on a crying 3 year old? Not. Fun.

Now that my daughter is a bit older, our Bathroom Routine is not as stressful or messy, but still has it’s challenges. Is my kid the only kid that doesn’t want to use the bathroom for what it’s there for? The bathroom seems to be the greatest place to play and be mischievous in but heaven forbid we actually use it to go potty. And when it’s time to go “number two,” she still has the fear of not being clean enough. So I’m the mom that still buys baby wipes…for her 5 year old to use.  Anyone else?

Here’s where the Cottonelle Clean Care Routine comes in…and totally inspired me to ‘clean up’ our Bathroom Routine. Cottonelle Clean Care toilet paper is thicker, stronger, softer, and the rolls last much longer, which means less switching out toilet paper rolls for mom (because apparently that’s a mom’s job) and easier clean up for the daughter. Cottonelle Cleansing Cloths are a great alternative to baby wipes and have quickly become the “big girl” wipes in our house. Now I just needed something to help my daughter stay focused in the bathroom rather than playing around. So I came up with a little rhyme for her to remember and crafted it into a sign to display above the toilet, that way she won’t forget our Bathroom Routine.

It says “Do your business and wipe your bum. Wash your hands when you’re done.” It makes her giggle but it has totally helped!

The combination of Cottonelle Clean Care Routine and the rhyme that’s adorably displayed in the bathroom where she can see it has GREATLY improved our Bathroom Routine. Which means less stress for mom and that’s a WIN people! Cottonelle Clean Care toilet paper combined with the cleansing cloths make clean up easier for my kiddo, therefore going potty doesn’t have to be a traumatic experience. Another WIN. Us moms need some “wins” every once in a while.

Less arguing with this girl, the better in my book!

What tips and tricks do you have up your sleeve to make the Bathroom Routine in your house less stressful and messy?

No Sew Burlap and Doily Tree Skirt

JoAnn Fabric and Craft Stores compensated me for the products used in this post, however all ideas and opinions are my own.

Hello there! I am super excited to share this Christmas craft with you today. Can you believe it’s been on my Christmas To Do list for 3 years? YIKES! I am very happy with the way my No Sew Burlap and Doily Tree Skirt turned out…take a look!

tree skirt3

I’ve decided a couple of things: 1) I love burlap and doilies together, and 2) doilies make the perfect snowflakes! What would you do if I told you it only took me about 30 minutes to make? I KNOW! Can’t believe it took me so long to get around to this project.

Are you ready to make one for your tree? Here’s what you’ll need:

  • about 2 yards of burlap (depending how big you want your skirt)
  • doilies
  • 3-4 packages of pom pom trim (love!)
  • scissors
  • hot glue gun and sticks

*All materials can be found at JoAnn Craft and Fabric Stores.

tree skirt collage

First you want to spread out your burlap and cut out your tree skirt. I used a dollar store felt tree skirt as my pattern. I just laid it on top of my burlap and cut around it. That easy!

After your skirt is cut, hot glue the pom pom trim around the edges of the tree skirt.

Lay the doilies out on the burlap where you want them and then hot glue them in place as well.

Lay the skirt under your tree and DONE!

tree skirt5

I really LOVE how it turned out and how easy it was to make. My 5 year old daughter keeps telling me how pretty and fancy our tree is now that it has a skirt :)
