Christmas Movie Quote Pennants

Hello makers! It’s Thanksgiving week and we are loving all the family time we are getting in. We decided to do a non traditional Thanksgiving on Thursday and get out of town to explore! Then we will have our traditional dinner with family on Saturday and I cannot wait! It’s practically the best meal of the year, wouldn’t you agree? Well, as you know, I’ve started my Christmas decorating already. I decided to pretty much purge everything from my decor and start fresh this year. So that means lots of Christmas crafts and DIYs, and I’m not mad about it. Today I want to share the Christmas Movie Quote Pennants I made for our new tree, but you can hang them anywhere!

We absolutely LOVE Christmas movies and it’s a goal to add new ones to our collection each year (just like our Christmas books)! These were so fun to make and they were the finishing touches to our tree. I really love them and the quotes we decided on. We even made Christmas Movie Quote Mugs too

In case you want to make some for your holiday decor, I thought I’d share the tutorial with y’all. You will need:

  • Drop cloth material (or something similar)
  • Black heat transfer vinyl (HTV)
  • Small wooden dowels
  • Jute or twine
  • Scissors
  • Ruler
  • Pen/marker
  • Hot glue and gun
  • Iron
  • Silhouette Cameo

First thing you want to do is draw your pennants on the drop cloth (you can find drop cloths at Home Depot and Lowe’s). I used a fabric marker and ruler for this. I measured them to be about 5 1/2 inches by 6 inches (to the point), then cut them out. The cool part about drop cloth material is that you really don’t have the hem the edges if you don’t want to. I like the rough cut look for this project.

Next I hot glued the small wooden dowels (found at Dollar Tree) to the top of the pennant by folding it over the dowel. Be sure some of the dowel is sticking out on both ends.

Then you want to cut a piece of jute (mine was about 5 inches long) to tie to each end of the wooden dowel.

Now you can design your movie quotes in the Silhouette Design Studio (or use mine, links at the end of the post). Be sure to mirror your image and load your HTV into the cameo with the shiny side down (refer to the directions on your HTV package). After you weed the design (leaving the shiny piece on), place it on the pennant. Iron it onto the drop cloth material (high heat) by pushing down firmly and moving to different places. I also recommend putting a piece of material in between the iron and the HTV for protection. Towards the end, I remove the extra material and press down firmly with the iron one more time.

Carefully peal the plastic sheet off the HTV, making sure the vinyl is secured to the pennant. If it’s not, iron again.

Now they are ready to hang! I just love them on our tree…

Can you guess the Christmas movies we picked by reading the quotes? If so, we can be besties.

I absolutely love them all. They are such fun and unique ornaments.

Do you think you’ll make them for your tree? They make it so fun and magical! Everyone that comes over wants to read them and yell out the Christmas movie they are from.

If you want to use my designs, simply click on the links below to download. And please leave a comment letting me know if you make them!

Happy Thanksgiving, friends! I am so thankful you are here and I appreciate all your support with this blog of mine!

14 Creative Valentine Boxes

Hello everyone!
Welcome to another week of Must Have Craft Tips and More! I am Allison, from A Glimpse Inside, back again to share with you one last tip for Valentine’s Day.

I remember being a kid and getting so excited about the Valentine’s Day party at school. I love making my own little box to take to allow everyone to drop their valentine cards into. When I was young though, a basic shoe box covered in construction paper and stickers was as creative I ever got but now a days, Valentine boxes are works of art!

I’ve rounded up 14 creative Valentine boxes that you can create with your kiddo to take to school that they will absolutely love!

10 Alternatives to Using PayPal

Hello there!

Several years ago when I started my handmade business, I needed to find a way to send invoices, receive money and send  money securely. At the time, the only only company I knew of doing such a thing was PayPal. I had heard of lots of other people using PayPal and the company advertised that they were safe, secure, reliable and with low transaction fees. Now after using PayPal for almost 4 years, I finally decided to research what else is out there. Is there another more secure and maybe even cheaper company providing the same services? A company with amazing customer service (seems hard to find these days) who will work with me, listen to me, and make me feel safe while holding my funds?

After some research, I have found 10 alternatives to using PayPal. Most of these companies provide the same services as PayPal, if not more. Click each company to find out more about their terms, security, and fees. Don’t be afraid to check out reviews for the companies either! It’s important to check out others’ experiences, in my opinion.

10 Alternatives to PayPal

1. Google Wallet

2. Amazon Payments

3. Serve

4. Square

5. Braintree Payments

6. MoneyBookers

7. Merchantinc

8. WePay

9. Payza

10. Click2Sell

I think I am going to be trying Google Wallet first. I really like all of the special features it offers that are different than PayPal features.

Recently I’ve had some major issues with the customer service at PayPal and issues with my account being frozen without explanation. As you can imagine, this is a HUGE inconvenience as a handmade shop owner. This situation is what provoked me to do some research, which in all honestly I should have done from the get-go. While researching alternatives to PayPal, I came across many MANY people and businesses who have encountered the same problems with PayPal and their customer service…many even more severe than my situation. So do yourself a favor and do the research. Find a company that will fit your needs and that you feel will keep your finances safe. After all, it is your business we’re talking about here. And if PayPal is the company that works best for you, by all means continue using their services. I felt it necessary to share my experience with my fellow handmade/small business owner friends.

Creative Blogger Business Cards

Hi friends!

As most of you know, I had to privilege of attending SNAP! conference in Utah this year. I was able to meet, learn from, chat with, laugh with, and hug lots of my blogger buddies. And I’d have to say one of my most favorite things I received from the conference (besides the amazing swag of course) were the business cards my blogger buddies gave me. Talk about colorful, happy, creative business cards. Not only are they probably the most important thing to bring with you to a conference, but they are so fun to collect!

Kinda like collecting pogs and slammers…but cooler.

As a first timer to a blog conference, I had no idea what I could do to make my business cards really stand out. Let me tell you what…there are some serious pros out there. Bloggers who have “been around the block” when it comes to attending a conference. So today I thought I would share some of my favorite blogger business cards with you. And if you are planning to attend a blog conference, take out your notebook and get to note taking, because I guarantee these cards will inspire you to make yours that much better…

Starting at the top left…

Jen of Four Marrs & One Venus gave out cards that were HILARIOUS. They totally fit her personality.

Michelle of Faith, Trust & Pixie Dust attached little bottles of “fairy dust” to her cards.

Ann Marie of White House Black Shutters attached a crayon to her card so that the recipient can color the card themselves. Clever.

Angela of Livingstons House Full of Boys & Bubbas Basics gave a mini mustache photo prop with her cards.

Jamielyn of I Heart Nap Time gave out ice cream cone pens which fit her personality well also.

Kellie of Nest of Posies made her cards into magnets! LOVE.

Laura of Pink Cake Plate attached small cupcake charms to her cards. I already put mine on a necklace for my 5 year old.

Bev of Flamingo Toes gave out handmade bracelets (I wear mine practically everyday) with her cards, which is perfect since she is known for her gorgeous handmade jewelry.

Shelley of House of Smiths attached mini buttons to her cards (that we all wore on our SNAP lanyards) with her personal theme of the year, “I am Awesomer.”

Marissa of Rae Gun Ramblings gave out super cool bookmarks with her shop photos on one side and blog photos on the other. If you know Marissa, you know that a bookmark couldn’t be more perfect for her to give out.

Michele of The Scrap Shoppe gave out a cute mini print and baker’s twine with her card in a cute paper envelope.

Amanda of Burlap and Denim made her cards out of… burlap and denim! SUPER cute.

McKenzie of Girl Loves Glam gave out adorable vinyl decals with all kinds of quirky blogger sayings.

Rebecca of The Crafted Sparrow made 20 gorgeous necklaces (themed around her blog) to give out to 20 lucky bloggy friends…notice I was one of the lucky ones : )

I wish I could share everyone’s cards with you because they are all that great!

I think everyone enjoyed seeing the individual creativity come through with just a “simple” business card.

You’re probably wondering what I did with my collection of creative blogger business cards now that I’m home from SNAP! conference…

Those “seasoned” bloggers had this genius idea… hole punch the cards in the top corner and put them on a binder ring. PERFECT.

Thanks for stopping by today!

I have so many more things to share with you…I just need more hours in the day to blog about it : )

See you tomorrow, friends!

SNAP! Roomie Swag (gift idea)

Hi there, friends!

I have to admit…I am playing catch-up here at home since being back from SNAP! conference. I’m almost caught up on my emails and laundry…and I am finishing up sign orders. But most of all, I’m being sure to spend time with my girl (who I missed like cray-cray) and my man (who will be heading out of town for work soon), because let’s face it… family is most important.

* Disclaimer: we are an alarmed and armed house. FYI.*

(Just in case a creepster is reading this. That disclaimer isn’t for my bloggy friends…you gals are my peeps.)

Speaking of SNAP! conference, I wanted to share the roomie swag I brought/made for my friends, Bev of Flamingo Toes and Michele of The Scrap Shoppe. I was so lucky to room with these girls…after being online buddies for 3 years, we finally got to hang out in…*gasp*…real life!! More on that fun later…

So, what do you give/make two of your favorite creatively talented blog friends?

Well…more “stuff” to create with of course! Plus, some inspiration for more creativity…

Rather than using gift bags, I gave the girls totes filled with fun goodies. I stenciled on a quote that reminded me of the both of them and fastened a felt flower and couple of rolled fabric roses to it also. I made a chalkboard tag and tied it to the tote with baker’s twine. I gave the girls cupcake liners, large washi tape, glitter, pad of paper, pen, ribbon, a blank apron to beautify, and chocolate (not pictured…eaten). I made them both a hand painted wooden sign and gave them a few things from my shop (not pictured).

Here’s a close up of the sign I made…inspired by a favorite scripture.

If you know me you know I LOVE giving gifts, so when the girls squealed and “ooooo-ed” and “aaaaaa-ed” over the goodies, my heart was happy.

Thanks to Bev for taking beautiful photos of the swag for me! I totally spaced it before rushing off to the conference.

I’m hoping to share more from SNAP! soon. Stay tuned :)

Find the large washi tape and cupcake liners at Wholeport. Find the apron and tote at FashionArtProjects.com.
