Happy Handmade Holidays: Homemade Biscotti

It’s Friday!!
So today’s Happy Handmade Holidays post is also a Food-a-licious Friday post…and is also a guest post.
Fun, right?!
My talented sister-in-law is stopping by today to share a crazy easy, crazy delicious handmade holiday gift recipe for Biscotti…
Arlena is a creative entrepreneur by blood (I tease her and my husband about this). She is the eldest of 5 siblings and a mother of 4. Arlena and her family have traveled the world…one “luxury” of being married to a military man. She owns a catering company and is the owner of the Children’s Culinary Institute and even teaches aqua zumba on the side. Today my sister-in-law is sharing an easy and frugal recipe that makes a great gift this holiday season!
Homemade Biscotti…and it is SO yummy.
1 box of white cake mix
1/2 cup chopped macadamia nuts
1 cup shredded coconut
1 cup chocolate chips
1/4 cup flour
2 eggs
1 tablespoon vegetable oil
Toast the coconut and macadamia nuts in the oven.
Mix all ingredients (minus the chocolate chips) in a mixing bowl.
Shape into a rectangular block on parchment paper on your baking sheet.
Bake at 350* for 25ish minutes. Remove and let cool on cooling rack.
Cut into 1/2 inch slices and place back on the baking sheet on their sides.
Bake 10-12 minutes longer, until ends are golden brown. Remove and let cool for 30 minutes on cooling rack.
Melt chocolate chips and drizzle with a fork over the biscotti.
Wrap in cellophane and give as a gift!
Thanks so much for stopping by and thanks to Arlena for sharing this yummy Homemade Biscotti recipe with us!

Happy Handmade Holidays: Wooden Chalkboard Menu

Day four of our Happy Handmade Holidays series!
Today I have a great handmade gift that’s perfect for almost anyone. It’s a great organizational tool and a super cute piece of kitchen decor.
Wooden Chalkboard Menu
Piece of wood (sanded)
Chalkboard spray paint
White craft paint
Paint brush
Sponge brush
Vinyl stencil/transfer paper (created using my Silhouette)
Paint your piece of wood with primer and allow time to dry.
Spray your primed wood with chalkboard paint and allow time to dry. Do 2-3 coats, making sure each coat is dry before applying another.
Apply your vinyl stencil to the chalkboard wood and remove the transfer paper. I used the word “Menu” at the top of the sign and then the first letter of each day of the week going down along the left side.
Lightly sponge the white paint on to your stencil and allow dry time.
Carefully peal your vinyl stencils off the chalkboard.
Take a piece of chalk, lay it on it’s side and rub the entire chalkboard with it. Wipe clean with a dry rag.
Now the menu is ready for meals to be written on it!
Hang it on a wall or set it on the counter. I love this shabby chic way of organizing dinners for the week!
{If you are unable to DIY a Wooden Chalkboard Menu, I also sell them for $25 + shipping. Just send me an email to Mineforthemaking(at)gmail.}
Don’t forget to enter the Happy Handmade Holidays GIVEAWAY, link up your handmade holiday ideas to our LINKY PARTY, and visit Delicate Construction to see what Michelle is sharing today!
See you tomorrow, friends!

Happy Handmade Holidays: Life of Pi Gift Basket

I’m so excited to share today’s gift idea with you! Although it’s not completely handmade, I did pick out and coordinate a gift basket with fabulous products from World Market. We’ll call it semi-handmade. This basket is perfect for the avid reader, movie watcher, and dreamer of world travel!

I LOVE a good book-turn-to-movie, don’t you?! Right now World Market has exclusive Life of Pi products! Have you read the book or seen the movie yet?

Life of Pi is the story of an Indian boy named Pi, a zookeeper’s son, who survives a
disaster at sea and is thrown into an epic journey. While adrift in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, he forms an amazing and unexpected connection with another a
fearsome Bengal tiger. The movie opens in theaters November 21, 2012.
You can watch the trailer for Life of Pi here: http://www.lifeofpimovie.com/#!/watch-trailer
I took my girl with me to World Market and we had a good time putting our Life of Pi gift basket together.
It was easy for me to put together the gift basket just by using the fabulous products from the World Market Life of Pi display. I found a beautiful basket…
And filled it with various Life of Pi products such as the book, ornament, and tea. I added a few other goodies to make this gift basket even more fabulous.

Wouldn’t this be the perfect gift basket for an at-home date night? Dinner, tea, snacks, and a new book to cuddle up with…in preparation for the movie of course.
(I have to read the book before I see the movie…how about you?)
Here’s the whole basket put together…
Who would you make a Life of Pi gift basket for?

Happy Handmade Holidays: HoopArt Ornaments

Welcome to the second day of Happy Handmade Holidays week!
I LOVE ornaments…especially handmade ones. Don’t you?
In fact…I’m even hosting a #handmadeornamentexchange on Instagram right now! So fun.
Today I am going to share the adorable HoopArt Ornaments I made for our tree (I can’t show you the ones I made for gifts because they read the ol’ blog). These ornaments are versatile  simple, inexpensive, and you no embroidery skills are required (seeing that I have none).
Mini hoops
burlap or other material
ric-rack, ribbon, or embroidery thread
hot glue gun and sticks
puff paint and craft paint
paint brush (optional)
Remove the outer circle of your hoops and set aside.
Cut a circle out of your material that is slightly larger than the inner circle of your hoop.
For the chevron looking one (pictured above), I hot glued mini ric-rack to the burlap circle, laid it on top of the inner hoop (right side up), and pressed the outer hoop around the outside…keeping the material nice and tight. Trim excess material.
For the monogram/polka dot hoopart ornament (pictured below) I put the burlap on the inner hoop and slipped the outter hoop over the top first (before painting). Trim excess material. Then use puff paint or craft paint to make a monogram. I used the back end of my paint brush to make the polka dots.
I also hot glued mini ric-rack to the outter hoop (or you can paint the outter hoop first before adding the material to it).
Tie a loop of ribbon through the top of the hoop to easily hang from a tree branch.
 I them, don’t you?
