DIY Wooden Travel Dollhouse

Hey there makers! I am stopping by today to share a great summer project with you. With all the summer vacationing and trips, I thought this DIY Wooden Travel Dollhouse would be great for little girls! Using a We Made It Jennifer Garner kit and a few craft supplies, you can make one too.

This wooden treasure box has 3 separate compartments and a sliding, transparent lid. After we decided to turn it into a travel dollhouse, we collected scrapbook paper, felt, pom poms, knobs, trim, Mod Podge, hot glue, a tape measure/ruler, scissors or paper cutter, etc. and got to work.

We measured out the compartments, cut the paper and felt to fit, and Mod Podged or hot glued them into place. Then we added trim and knobs- also known as crown molding and chandeliers in dollhouse world. Using wooden pieces and a pom pom, we made a table and a potted plant to accessorize. Our peg dolls were ready to play! We made a bedroom, a ballroom, and a garden for Cinderella and Prince Charming.

Everything fits nice and neat inside with the lid on, making it easy for travel.

My daughter has had so much fun playing with her DIY Wooden Travel Dollhouse. We can’t wait to take it on our next road trip and our next camping trip we have planned. It’s also the perfect size for her Disney Princess Magiclip dolls, which have been visiting the dollhouse too.

I have a feeling that this dollhouse will be getting LOTS of play!

Totes Love my JoAnn Tote

Being a handmade shop owner and having a ton of family out of state, I spend a lot of time at the post office during the holiday season. One of my favorite things to do is package up orders or wrap up gifts…pretty packaging is where it’s at. But the trip to the post office is always a difficult one trying to get everything in the door in one trip. That’s why I totes love my JoAnn Tote!

JoAnn Tote1

These totes are cute and HUGE! Perfect to loading up the packages I need to take to the post office.

JoAnn Tote3

Obviously I shop a ton at JoAnn… not only is it part of my job as a craft blogger but it feeds my hobby for creating AND I’m even able to get a few homeschool items while I’m there. Plus, everyone knows that JoAnn has the best coupon policy EVER. So it’s really my go-to place for all things crafty. Right now when you spend an in-store purchase of $30 or more, you can pick up one of their cute totes for only $9.99.

I’ve used mine for park play dates already too! I was able to pack a blanket, our lunch boxes, sand toys, water bottles, and my wallet! Go grab one while supplies last!

I was compensated for this post with a gift card and adorable tote, though all opinions are 100 % my own and I only share things that I love that I think you will love too!

Spring Monogram Door Decor

The following review is part of the Jo-Ann Fabric And Craft Stores® National Craft Month campaign. I received compensation for this review; however, this is my personal, honest opinion based on my experience.

Hello and happy weekend to you, friends! We are loving the beautiful weather here in sunny Arizona.  And with spring just around the corner, I am in the mood to get my craft on with all things that remind me of spring. Plus, it’s National Craft Month!! Lucky for me (and YOU) Jo-Ann Craft and Fabric Stores has a great spring crafting inspiration website chalk full of fun spring ideas and tutorials. After visiting the website, I was totally inspired to make something using flowers and floral print. Check out the Spring Monogram Door Decor I created!

Spring Monogram1

It’s such a pretty, happy invite to our family and guests as we enter our home. I love the floral print with the glittery gold bunting, don’t you?

Spring Monogram2

Would you like to make your own? All supplies were purchased at Jo-Ann!

  • 3D cardboard letter
  • floral scrapbook paper
  • gold glitter scrapbook paper
  • paper flowers
  • faux spring bird
  • jute
  • Mod Podge

Jo-Ann makes spring crafting easy with the coupon for $5 off a $25 or more purchase.

Spring Monogram3

With your floral paper print side down, lay your 3D cardboard letter on top (right side down) and trace with a pencil. Using your scissors, cut out your letter. With a sponge brush, paint the front of your cardboard letter with Mod Podge and lay the floral paper on top, smoothing it out as you go so that there are little to no air bubbles under the paper. Allow dry time. (*Optional: Add an additional layer of Mod Podge on top of the floral paper.) Hot glue the bird and paper flowers where you’d like them on your monogram. Cut out glittery gold bunting pieces and hot glue them to the jute. Then hot glue the ends of the jute to your monogram. Hot glue a loop of ribbon or ric rack to the back top of your letter so that you can hang it from your door easily. DONE!

Rustic, Shabby Chic Thanksgiving Tablescape

I was provided compensation for materials from Jo-Ann Fabric and Craft Stores to complete this post, but all ideas and opinions are my own.

Happy weekend, y’all!

I’m sharing my Rustic, Shabby Chic Thanksgiving Tablescape with you today. Usually, I throw my table together last minute which doesn’t make for a very pretty or festive table. This year I planned ahead and even bought a few materials from Jo-Ann to make sure my table turned out exactly the way I had envisioned it.

I knew I wanted to incorporate wood and burlap textures to my table as well as pretty elegant materials like lace, gold glitter, and doilies. I also knew I wanted to use pretty fall colors on top of the wood and burlap to brighten things up a bit.

I bought burlap, white lace, turquoise rick-rack, mini pine cones, gold paint, napkins, and silk flowers from my local Jo-Ann Fabric and Craft Store. The rest of the items on my table I already had on hand… dishes, glass jars, wood, table runner, doily, etc. Plus I used my handy coupon for Jo-Ann so I saved a ton! (You can find your coupon at the end of this post!)

I really love how it all came together. I used the burlap around the jars and I made pockets for silverware as well. I added lace, rick-rack, and painted gold polka dots on the burlap as well.

I really love the yellow, orange, and turquoise with the natural, rustic textures on the table. It’s a happy Thanksgiving tablescape, isn’t it?

Have a beautiful weekend!

Floral Chair Pocket

I was provided with Waverly material for this post, but all opinions and ideas are 100% my own.

Hello there!

I have lots of FUN to share with you today, friends! First of all, did you know that September is National Sewing Month? How many of my friends out there are sew-ers? I’m definitely not a pro, but I dabble in the realm of sewing. Since September is the month of sewing, I thought I would share a project I sewed. A little something to allow for more organization in our school/craft room using Wavlery fabric from JoAnn Fabric and Craft Stores! Check out the Floral Chair Pocket I made…

Don’t you LOVE the fabric?! I love the colors and the floral pattern. It’s happy, don’t you think?

I added trim and several felt flowers too…because let’s be honest, I LOVE to embellish.

I love how the chair pocket provides extra storage for my daughter’s homeschool books and folders. It really clears up the work space. I always wanted to make these for the chairs in my classroom when I was an elementary school teacher, but as you can guess, as a teacher I just didn’t have the time to make 30+ of them. I am SO excited I was finally able to make one for at home. You can check out the tutorial I adapted for my own chair HERE.

The contest runs from September 1-21, 2013, and the winner takes home $1,000 in Waverly fabric and a $250 gift card to JoAnn Fabric and Craft Stores! Say what?! Yep, you read it right.
