Patriotic Topiaries

Hey friends! I am going to share an easy and inexpensive way to make a red, white, and blue decoration that you could have up for any of our patriotic holidays. With the 4th of July around the corner, you still have enough time to make a few!

You will need:
-Small red, white, and/or blue bucket (Target $1.00)
-patriotic plant pick (Michael’s $1.99)
-Styrofoam (found some in our garage)
-hot glue and gun
-red, white, or blue tissue paper (in my gift wrapping supplies)
-patriotic ribbon scraps (left over from another craft).
Steps:
1. Hot glue styrofoam to the bottom of the buckets.
2. Stick the plant pick in the styrofoam. Add hot glue around it so it is nice and sturdy.
3. Stuff tissue paper in the bucket, around the pick.
4. Tie scrap ribbon around the pick or on the bucket handle.

This was a 5-10 minute craft that was cheap, easy, and cute!

Have you made any decorations for the 4th of July? I would love to see them! Leave me a link in the comments : ) Thanks for stopping by, bloggy friends!

Food-a-licious Friday {31} Make Mealtime Fun!

Hi friends! Are you enjoying summer? I sure am.
One of my favorite things to do during the summer is try new recipes or make meal time a little more fun for my 3 year old.
This past Memorial Day was the perfect opportunity to make Luci a patriotic themed lunch.
How cute and simple right? And let me tell you… this girl never ate lunch so fast in her life!
I found the blue star sandwich cutter at Dollar Tree and the small star cookie cutter is from a collection I picked up at a garage sale (you might have one in your Christmas cookie cutter collection).
After making Luci a peanut butter and strawberry preserve sandwich, simply pressed the sandwich cutter into it. I then used the star cookie cutter on some watermelon. Place lunch on a blue plate for presentation and…. viola!! Easy patriotic lunch!
I can’t wait to do this again for 4th of July!!
What do you do to make meal time fun?

What I Like Wednesday: Memorial Day 2011

I hope you had a great Memorial Day with your friends and family! We sure did.

And of course I just had to decorate for the occasion.

How much do you LOVE my Uncle Sam on the vintage bike?? Clearance last year at Michael’s for $4.50. I know!

Scrap pieces of red, white, and blue ribbon are great embellishments to candles.

The great thing about my patriotic decor is that I can leave it up (and add to it) all the way through July!

Speaking of patriotic decor, make sure you check out my wreath tutorial and PB inspired flag pillow tutorial from last year!

We had our friends over for a BBQ on Memorial Day.

The kids had fun playing with water, bubbles, chalk, and each other.

The adults had fun eating and talking.
Menu:
-BBQ smoked ribs
-corn on the cob
-pasta salad
-chips and salsa
-turkey dogs for the kiddos
-fruit (pineapple, watermelon, & strawberries)
Here are a couple of treats I made for the occasion…

{Oreo Chocolate Chip Cookies}

I got the idea for these delicious (and addicting) cookies at I Heart Nap Time.

{Strawberries dipped in white chocolate with blue sprinkles}

I saw these strawberries on Pinterest and had to make them. YUM!
(Which, by the way, I am LOVING Pinterest. Follow me! It is too fun.)
