Mermaid Inspired Dolly and Me Necklaces

Hello there Makers! Today I’m sharing a fun craft for those girly girls out there. My daughter is all about her dolls right now, so we often plan crafts around them… especially when we are cooped up inside due to triple digit summer weather. She loved helping me make these Mermaid Inspired Dolly and Me Necklaces!

We ordered all of our supplies from from Fizzy Pops and they showed up right on our door step. That means we didn’t even have to go out into the heat to shop for our supplies… SCORE!!

The great thing about this online shop is that there’s also a blog connected to the site loaded with tutorials on fun crafts and projects to make using their materials and products. I was able to watch a video tutorial and read through a photo tutorial to make these gorgeous necklaces.

Don’t you just LOVE the colors… they remind me of mermaid secrets and underwater treasures.

For the dolly necklace, I chose the same color beads as my daughter’s, but stuck with smaller size. She LOVES that her and her doll have matching summer necklaces. They even wore them out to dinner the other night. So cute.

We want to share the love with our friends, so how about a giveaway for a Fizzy Pops Necklace Kit!! And guess what… there’s two kits to give away which means I will randomly pick two winners!

Ombre Vintage Key Necklace {tutorial}

Hi there!
I’m really excited to share this tutorial with you today!! It’s so simple and beautiful…such a great DIY jewelry project.
Hello good lookin!! Don’t you LOVE it?!
Inspiration came from a photo I saw on Anthropologie‘s Instagram feed (search Anthropologycom on IG).
Supplies:
-Vintage looking key
(I got mine at a garage sale but you can order them online, find them at craft stores, or even in home decor stores.)
-Embroidery floss
(2-5 in different shades of the same color)
-Necklace chain
-Scissors
-Hot glue and gun
Let’s get started!
Tutorial:
-Using a tiny dot of hot glue on the back of your key, adhere the end of the darkest color of embroidery floss and start wrapping. You don’t have to be perfect.
-I used 4 shades of the same color so about 1/4 of the way down the key, I cut the floss and glued the end to the back of the key. Then I started with the floss that is a little bit lighter than the first.
-Repeat these steps until you have used all 4 shades of floss and the neck of your key is covered ombre style.
-Tie a small bow at the top and be sure to knot it. Snip the ends with your scissors.
-Hang your Ombre Vintage Key on a necklace and proudly wear it!
Fun right?
Join me Monday and I will show you the bangle bracelet I made to go with this necklace!
Have a great rest of your weekend!

NEW Shop Products {squeal}

I know I know.
I said I would have everything photographed, edited, listed in the shop and a preview for all of you, my lovely readers, by Tuesday of this week.
FAIL.
Let me be the first to tell you that my to-do lists are almost always unreasonably written. As in, there are far too many tasks for one person for one day to complete. But whatev. That’s how I roll.
Forgive me?
Can we still be friends?
Oh good.
Now…are you ready to see some of the new items I have finished listing in my shop? I couldn’t be more thrilled with these new products.
Introducing the Bowtiful line and the new Fabric Rose Necklaces!
I am already in the process of sewing more of the necklaces and I have some FABULOUS new rings that will be listed very soon as well.
What do you think?!
I had a bunch more of the necklaces but sold them during a fun Instagram sale.
Hop on over to my SHOP to see more!
Use coupon code FREESHIPPING on your next purchase…because I the heck out of you!
And be on the look out because momma is busy making even more lovelies for the shop!

FemmePetal GIVEAWAY

{CLOSED}

I am so excited for this giveaway, friends!

My sweet friend, Erin, of FemmePetal has so graciously offered to give one MFTM reader a beautiful necklace from her shop!
My name is Erin, and I am designer of FemmePetal! I am a single momma to 3 gorgeous kids! Hannah 13, Doc 8, and Maxwell who is 2. I think I am pretty much the coolest mom ever, however my daughter thinks I am a dork! UGH Teenagers! They just dont know what cool is anymore.  I work full time for a dentist, although I went to dental assisting school and assisted for 5 years, I now call the front office my job, and I love it! I work 11 hour days, so my time creating is very limited and I spend all of it creating jewelry! My best selling necklace is my Carrie Necklace, which is sold mainly to bridal parties. Although I sport mine all the time! It is an original design by yours truly.
I find inspiration everywhere I turn! I am an avid “pinner” and get lots of color ideas from pinterest. I am also a magazine “junkie” …fashion mags and Martha Stewart weddings are high on the purchase list! There is so much inspiration all around you just have to find beauty in it all!
So, to the good part! What am I giving away? One of my latest (and personally my favorite)… the new Romantic Ruffle Chiffon Necklace in Soft pink ($19 value).

Here’s how to win!

Pom Pom Necklace {tutorial}

I have a few tops/dresses that are a little low cut in the front. I needed to find a way to save these pieces of clothing from the bottomless pit of my closet. These babies needed to revisit the world. But as a SAHM, I am on a budget…I’m sure there are many of you who can relate. So I went looking through my craft stash…
Enter in the Pom Pom Necklace…from napkins.

Supplies:
-fabric
(I used cloth napkins I got in a large bag of material from a garage sale)
-felt
-scissors
-hot glue and gun
-necklace chain
-tape measure
-metal/wire/jewelry cutters
Steps:
-Cut a TON of circles from your fabric and 3 circles of felt. I cut about 30-40 two inch circles from the cloth napkins.

-Fold the circles in half, then in quarters and hot glue so they don’t unfold.

-Hot glue the quartered circles on the felt circles, layering them so they are fluffy and full. I glued about 10-12 quartered circles onto the felt circle.

-Once you have finished your 3 pom poms, measure your chain so that you can slip the necklace off of your head (no clasp in this tutorial) and cut with your metal/wire/jewelry cutters.

-Glue each end of the chain to the back of a pom pom and then glue a square of felt over the ends of the chain. (Only 2 of the 3 pom poms are used for this step)

-Arrange all 3 pom poms (on another piece of felt) exactly the way you want your necklace to look. Make sure the pom poms you glued your chain to are on the outside.

-Glue pom poms in place and trim the felt off around the pom poms.

-Slip over your head and admire your creation in the mirror!
No more cleavage hanging out of this shirt….

Side note: This is the first time I’ve ever done an outfit post…totally made the hubby take 1,000 pictures until I was happy with these 2…and these 2 only. Thanks for being a trooper, lover!

Problem solved and I have 2 cute, new Pom Pom Necklaces! And since I had all of the supplies already, these 2 necklaces were F-R-E-E! Can’t beat that.

I hope you are ready to link up your creative fashion posts at DIY Diva Thursdays linky party this week!!
{This project was inspired by one of my faves, Little Miss Momma. You can find her Pom Pom Necklace post here.}
