Live Everyday with Intention

Hello friends. My year is already off to such a great start. While goal setting and planning for the year, I choose a word to focus on. Something that will help me to grow as a person and be a better mom, wife, and friend. I try to dig deep and find what it is that my soul needs so that I can be those things. I really want to take charge and “own it” this year, so the word that I picked is ‘intentional’ which means ‘to do with intention or on purpose…deliberate.” I want to live everyday with intention.

I did some reading and soul searching over the word ‘intentional’ and came up with a few tips for intentional living. I broke it down so that I won’t be overwhelmed…change is hard for me, but often times so necessary for growth.

Be Present

Wherever I am, whatever I am doing, I want to be present in the moment. I want to take it all in and enjoy it rather than thinking about what’s coming next or multitasking twenty-five other things. The laundry can wait. The dirty dishes will still be there to clean later. Enjoy this season. Time is so fleeting.

Plan Your Priorities

“Plan your priorities, don’t prioritize your plans.” I read that quote on Pinterest and had an moment of realization. Each morning I am going to start out with a good breakfast and plan out my day while focusing in on a few main priorities (it’s okay to say NO to things or activities!). I’ll probably turn on some good music, open the curtains, and talk about the day’s plans with my sidekick while enjoying breakfast together. And lucky for me, I don’t have to spend too much time making the breakfast… thanks to Kellogg Special K® food and snacks for fueling our busy mornings. Less time making breakfast equals more time spent planning our priorities together.

Healthy Choices, Healthy Thoughts

I want to be intentional with my choices and thoughts. From the food I eat to physical activity to self talk… I want to be intentional with it all. While planning out our day or week, I will be consistently meal planning and making sure that I have exercise and mediation on our agenda. Diets are out, confidence is in and that’s what I want to model for my daughter.

The Special K® Nourish line has wholesome ingredients so you can feel confident giving your body what it needs. Having easy solutions for breakfasts (and snacks!) makes meal planning that much easier. Some of my very favorites are Special K® Chocolate Delight Cereal, Special K® Nourish Coconut Cranberry Almond Cereal, Special K® Fruit and Yogurt, Special K® Sausage Crustless Quiche, and Special K® Sausage, Egg & Cheese Sandwich.

Want to have a smoother running morning so you can live with intention too? Hover over the picture above to shop the products! From 12/31/17 – 1/27/18: Get 10% OFF select Special K® Quiche and Handhelds at Target. If you shop in store, be sure to pull up your Target Cartwheel app!

From 11/1/17 – 6/1/18: Get a free Swell water bottle with an empowerment message on it via Kellogg Family Rewards when you purchase any combination of three (3) participating Kellogg® Special K® products between 11/1/17 and 6/1/18. Receipts must be submitted by 7/1/18. Click here to learn more about the Kellogg Family Rewards offer for a free Swell water bottle with purchase of three Special K® products!

I’m going to live less out of habit and more out of intent. I’m going to be present, plan my priorities, and have healthy choices and thoughts. This year holds so much potential and I’m looking forward to being intentional.

How do you live an intentional life? I would love to hear your tips!

Best of 2017

Hello friends! I hope your year is off to a great start! I am so excited for the year ahead and I am super motivated. At the beginning of each year, I look over the work that I accomplished here on the blog the year prior. I’ll be honest with you and tell you that I was feeling less than creative at the beginning of last year, but after attending SNAP conference last April (read about it here), I was back in the game. Thank you for sticking with me! It was really fun to look back at last year’s stats to see what your favorite posts were. I thought I would share a few of them along with some of my personal favorites from last year… all of which I would consider the Best of 2017.

HGTV Smart Home Tour

I had a great time touring the HGTV Smart Home here in Arizona last year. Meeting the designers (I adore Tiffany Brooks!), walking through the gorgeous desert-influenced home, marveling at all of the cool technology capabilities the home had, and being completely inspired… it was an incredible experience. You can see a video of the home here.

Easy DIY Cactus Sign

We love a good cactus project, especially being Arizona natives. This cute sign was so fun to make and was one of MFTM readers favorites too!

Painted Feather Sneakers

These shoes were so fun to make for my daughter and they were a readers favorite as well! Who knew adding spray fabric paint to shoes could be so cute?

Best Eats at Knott’s Berry Farm

We love visiting Knott’s Berry Farm and we were able to do a girls’ trip there with our best friends last summer! While we were there, we found (and ate) all of the delicious foods Knott’s has to offer! If you’re planning a trip, be sure you check this post out first.

Tips for the Busy Mom

I love talking motherhood and finding ways to better use my time, and so do MFTM readers! I think it’s because we can all relate… ain’t no hood like motherhood!

Embellished Cactus Purse

My daughter and I had fun embellishing this purse for our hiking adventures. It’s one of her favorite projects from this past year and one of yours too. Adding some felt and pompoms can turn an ordinary purse into a really fun one!

Personalized Dog Dishes

One of the yucky parts of last year was losing our pup, Bruzer. My best buddy for 14 years and my blogging/crafting/everyday sidekick. This was the last post he was a part of on MFTM, and he was such a good sport! He really loved his new dishes. Such a sweet dog and we love him and miss him more than words.

Back to School Family Movie Night (with Captain Underpants)

I had so much fun kicking the new school year off with this fun party for my daughter and a few of her friends. It didn’t take a ton or work or planning, but you’d have thought it was a huge, blow out bash with how much the kids enjoyed it! Lots of giggles over the paper underpants!

I Love Lucy Costume

Not only was this project SO fun to put together with my daughter (her idea), but y’all loved it just as much as we did! And after all that work, my daughter got sick the night before Halloween… luckily she felt better and the fever subsided before it was time to trick-or-treat. Night saved and lots of great memories made!

Christmas Movie Quote Pennants

We made lots of DIY Christmas decor this past year because I decided to do “The Great Christmas Purge of 2017” and pretty much throw away, give away, and donate all of my Christmas decor so we could start fresh. These cute pennants were one of the many projects and a clear favorite for sure!

So fun to look back at all of the content shared over 2017! Did you have a favorite? I’d love to know!

Thank you so much for being here and reading my blog, commenting on my posts, and trying out our recipes, crafts, and DIY projects! Your support truly means the world to me. I have lots of big plans for 2018 and I am really excited to share them here with you. I hope you have a great rest of your week!

One Little Word 2014: Shine

Have you chosen one little word for 2014 to focus on, friends? Typically every new year, I review my 10 or so goals from the previous year, decide how well I did, and then create 10 new goals for the  year. I will continue with this tradition, as I love goal setting, but I’ve also decided to jump on the One Little Word bandwagon this year. After MUCH contemplation about which word would be best for me for this year, I finally made my choice…

shine1 (photo source)

Shine. It’s simple, yet profound at the same time. This year, I choose to SHINE.

(source unknown)

I will focus on making my thoughts more positive rather than negative. I will choose my words wisely when I speak to others, so that they may “shine out of [my] face like sunbeams…”

This year I choose to find lots of reasons to smile. I will smile for the small things like beautiful weather or the way my daughter giggles at her daddy. And I will smile for the big things like accomplishing big goals and conquering fears.

shine7 (source unknown)

This year I choose to come closer to my Heavenly Father. I choose to study my scriptures on a regular basis and pray even more often than I already do. This year I choose to make my father in heaven proud of who I am, and I will shine.

shine4 (source unknown)

This year I will do things that make my soul shine! I will spend lots of time with my family and friends. I will spend lots of time outside in beautiful weather. I will spend lots of time creating, reading, listening to music, exploring, learning, and trying new things. All of which make my soul shine bright.

shine6 (source unknown)

As I am getting closer and closer to my 30th birthday, I find myself really becoming who I was meant to be. I know who I am and I am really beginning to LOVE being in my own skin. This year I will continue to learn more about myself and as I become who I am meant to be, I will shine brighter.

shine3 (source unknown)

I am so confident that 2014 is going to be an amazing year, full of memories to be made, goals to accomplish, adventures to be had, dreams to fulfill, fears to conquer, and all kinds of ways to SHINE bright.

So now that you know my one little word for 2014, what’s yours?

Did any of your favorites make it into the Top 13?! I know some of mine did! *wink*

And to my pleasant surprise, there were lots of popular projects from the past as well! Here are the top 5 projects from previous years that are still searched for and viewed often here at Mine for the Making:

I feel like I grew a TON as a blogger and handmade shop owner this year. I attended SNAP conference back in April and learned so much and made so many wonderful, lifelong friendships. From there I decided to clean up my blog design and transfer from Blogger over to WordPress (thanks to some of those wonderful lifelong friends I was just talking about. Thank you Becca and Carolina!) and although I lost some views in the beginning, I’m starting to see some awesome growth the past several months (which is a blogger’s dream). My photo taking and editing skills have improved over the course of this year IMMENSELY and I’ve gained a TON of new followers and friends on Instagram, Facebook, Pinterest and even Twitter! I finally bit the bullet in 2013 and got a twitter account and it’s safe to say that I love it. Silly, I’m sure, but growth all the same. As a handmade shop owner, I sold at more fairs and created more custom sign orders than years past. MFTM accomplished lots this past year…some small steps and others, large.

I am really looking forward to 2014 and all that it has in store… for my family, my blog, my shop, as a mother and a wife, and as a homeschooler. I hope you will stick around for the fun; I sure love having you here!

Follow along on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and Pinterest, too!

DIY New Year’s Eve Photo Booth

Hi there, friends!
I have a FUN and CHEAP idea for you to help you ring in the New Year! Usually we spend our NYE at home eating and playing games. I wanted to add something new to our celebrations this year but I didn’t have much money to spend on the festivities. Here’s what I came up with…
Super fun, right?
White plastic table cloth
Colorful card stock
Colorful tissue paper
Wooden skewers
Push pins
 Craft Paint
Circle sponge brush
Hot glue gun & sticks
*Almost all items I had on hand already. I just went through my craft stash.*
I used my Silhouette (favorite crafting tool EVER…what would I do without her?) to cut out all of the photo props, hats and banner.
I hot glued the skewers to the photo props and the pennants to twine to make the banner.
I added rhinestones and paint polka dots (craft paint + circle sponge brush) for a little something extra.
For the hats, I added yarn to tie them to our heads (since I had it on hand) and made tissue paper pom-poms to add to the tops of the hats.
For our “photo booth,” I hung a white plastic table cloth from the wall using push pins.
And then we went to crazytown with the paper props and hats…
We used my iPhone to take all of the photos and then I used a fun app for the edits (FotoLR3)…
I LOVE the way they all turned out! Too fun.
There you go friends!
A FUN and simple way to ring in the New Year at home with the family and friends.
Thanks for stopping by and have a SAFE and HAPPY New Year’s Eve!
I will see you back here Monday for MFTM’s TOP posts of 2012!

Food-a-licious Friday {103} NYE Veggie Tray

Hi friends!!
Did you all have a beautiful Christmas? I’ve taken a little break from blogland this week so that I can spend lots of time with family and really take the whole Christmas experience in. My daughter is 4 1/2 and Christmas was SO fun and memorable for her (as us) this year. We are blessed!
Today I am stopping by to share an EASY and cute way to ring in the New Year with a veggie tray!
Usually we eat lots of appetizers and play games on New Year’s Eve, so a veggie tray is a must.
I loved seeing the veggie trays turned jack-o-lantern and Christmas tree during the last couple of holidays. I thought it would be fun to shape our veggies into 2013 for our NYE festivities this year.
Cute right?
We used carrots, broccoli, and red bell pepper, but you can easily choose your family’s favorite veggies for this. For the dip, I used plain Greek yogurt and a Ranch dip packet. The Greek yogurt is a great, healthy alternative to sour cream and you can barely tell the difference.
What do you all do for NYE?
Thanks for stopping by, friends!
Happy Friday!
