Back-to-School Family Movie Night

This post is part of a social shopper marketing insight campaign with Pollinate Media Group® and Snyder’s-Lance, but all my opinions are my own. #pmedia #Pop4Captain http://my-disclosur.es/OBsstV

Hello there makers! We have had such a busy first week back to school, how about you? I thought we would celebrate the completion of the first week with a Back-to-School Family Movie Night, complete with fun snacks and some simple decorations. With the pre-order of Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie, we can hardly wait to get our movie watching on!

We are all so excited for the new Captain Underpants movie DVD release. Not only is it the perfect movie for family movie night, but two of my favorite comedians, Kevin Hart and Ed Helms, are the voices of the main characters.

So we decided to theme our family movie night Captain Underpants style, complete with red caps and white underpants.

We decorated the kitchen table with red pompoms, a table cloth, some white paper clouds, and a couple of fun signs. We also picked up a couple of our favorite movie snacks, Pop Secret popcorn and Lance cracker sandwiches.

I made red paper capes and white paper underpants and glued them onto small paper bags to hold the Pop Secret popcorn. They were really simple to make and turned out so cute.

We love Pop Secret because it’s a delicious, high-quality snack that people can feel good about sharing with their family… not to mention the great butter taste! Yum! What’s family movie night without the popcorn?!

Lance crackers are one of our go-to snacks.  They have been making little sandwiches for over 100 years with two awesome crackers on the outside with incredible spreads between. Two of my favorites are Peanut Butter Honey and Grilled Cheese! With real peanut butter or real cheese between crispy baked crackers, up to 5 grams of protein, and no high fructose corn syrup, Lance provides a variety of sandwich crackers that are a tasty and satisfying snack solution for your family’s busiest school days.

To make these crackers even more fun, I added salami capes and pepper jack cheese underpants! They made my daughter giggle quite a bit and they tasted great… mission accomplished.

After a long week, cuddling up with my favorite snacks and favorite people to watch a fun family movie is just what we needed.

Want to have your own back-to-school family movie night, too? You certainly can! We bought our Pop Secret popcorn and Lance crackers at Walmart. Plus, the Captain Underpants DVD is will be available in Walmart stores 9/12! Be sure to reserve your copy now by pre-ordering today! While supplies last.

How do you celebrate the first week back to school? Does your family like movie nights? I’d love to hear about it!

Easy Spider-Girl Costume

With Halloween around the corner, we have been busy watching all of our favorite Halloween movies this month! We were super excited to add Avengers: Age of Ultron Blu-Ray/DVD to our collection since it was released on October 2nd at Walmart. Our family is all about superheroes! Aside from popping popcorn and chocolate covered blueberries, I decided to make the movie viewing even more fun for my daughter by creating an Easy Spider-Girl Costume using a Spider-Man costume and adding a few girly touches.

spidergirl costume1

How cute is this girl? I kid you not, after she put on the Spiderman part of the costume, she looked down at the faux muscles and said, “This is so sick.” LOL! She was totally digging the muscles!

spidergirl costume2

To girly up the Spiderman costume a bit, we added sparkly sneakers, a handmade tutu (tutorial below) and a spider web mask.

spidergirl costume8

To make the tutu you will need about 5 yards of tulle and a roll of 1-2 inch ribbon and scissors. First you want to cut your strips of tulle. To do that, keep the tulle folded long ways (it comes that way off the roll) and fold it two more times long ways. Then cut the tulle at every 4 inches until you run out of tulle (refer to the first photo above). Next measure the waist line of your child and add 40 inches to it and cut that length from the ribbon. For example, my daughter was 27 around the waist, so I cut off 67 inches of ribbon. Then you want to tie a knot 20 inches in on each side of the ribbon (refer to the second photo above). Go back to your strips of tulle that you previously cut and start cutting them all in half so that they are each about 13-14 inches long. Now take the strips of tulle and loop-n-pull them on in between the two knots on the ribbon (refer to photos 3-6 above) until the the entire ribbon between the two knots is full. You kind of have to slide the tulle down the ribbon as you go so that you get a full tutu.

Now just add the handmade tutu to the Spiderman costume and BAM! You have yourself an Easy Spider-Girl Costume.

In between the superhero/Spiderman stances, there was some definite ballet dancing in this costume. I love this girly tomboy of mine!

spidergirl costume3 And you better believe she wore the entire costume while we watched Avengers: Age of Ultron and munched on our favorite snacks. Do your kids love dress up too? I love that we can use this costume year round…not just for Halloween!

Head to your local Walmart to pick up your copy of Avengers: Age of the Ultron Blu-Ray/DVD and any of the MARVEL Avengers and Spiderman costumes to make movie viewing and Halloween that much more fun!

Is your family into superheroes? Which MARVEL hero would your kiddo choose to dress up like?

Have a SUPER weekend friends!

30 Family Friendly Halloween Movies

I am so happy that it’s October. I absolutely love this time of year… where I pretend like it’s cool out and that the leaves are changing colors. Lol! Luckily, this week we are looking at the 90s which is a huge relief. So I busted out the faux pumpkins and mini haystacks and started planning Halloween costumes and plugging in fall events on our calendar. One of our very favorite things to do is watch spooky, magical movies during October. So I rounded up 30 Family Friendly Halloween Movies that you might light to watch with the kids this year too!

*Disclaimer: As a parent, I recommend previewing the movies first and deciding on your own if the movie is appropriate for your children to view. Some of these movies are pretty spooky, some have mild adult language and they range in ratings (G, PG, or PG-13). For example, my daughter is only 7, so there are movies on this list that she isn’t allowed to watch just yet.

Family Movie Night

Something you probably already know. . . kids love surprises. . . news flash, right? Well, imagine their surprise when you throw a fun Family Movie Night party for them! Not only will your kids love it, but you’ll love that this whole party is half the cost of going to the movies.

Family movie night

First, let your family know you are planning a fun movie night. If you read Mine for the Making, then you probably already own a cute chalk board. Simply write, “family movie night,” the time and maybe the movie title on it, and set it out in the morning before everyone rushes off to work and school.

The decorations I used were easy. Dollar store streamers in red and gold as a backdrop, and a dollar store back plastic table cloth. To jazz the table up a bit and make it more “old Hollywood-ish” I added some gold sequins I had from an old New Year’s Eve party.

For snacks, I choose something a little different than the traditional popcorn. We love Chex-mix in this house, so I filled little lunch bags with Chex-mix for them to snack on. I found the cool red food storage buckets at the dollar store as well. I love these because they have a handle on them, so if the kids are eating on the sofa they have something to hold onto. I wrapped a few pieces of red licorice in a napkin, and also had individual cups of mixers for their Chex-mix as an extra treat.

Lastly, I used mason jars I had on hand to make rootbeer floats. I displayed them in plastic flower pots I also found at the dollar store. By putting ice in these, the drinks were able to stay cool, and look super cute.

Add a few extra pillow and blankets to your living room, and voila! The perfect family activity for way less than what you would spend going out! For this whole party, including food, I spent a little less than $20.
